Marking Time
2005-08-04 - 4:21 p.m.I find myself with a brief moment so I thought I would update.
The last couple of days have been a whirlwind of Pre-Pennsic activity.
The trailer is loaded and ready to go. Tonight I gather and pack up the remaining stuff so that tomorrow we can hit the road, right after work.
Assuming we leave around 7pm that puts us there around 2-3 am. We will throw together the cots and sleep under the Pennsic sky.
…I just teared up a little.
I can’t believe it’s almost time. Time for my Pennsic fix.
Time for those days that seem to last forever…quiet afternoon naps in the hammock, moments of valor on the field, camaraderie and Stoney’s Ale around the camp fire.
Wow.
Da Pennsic. I’m going again, and I still get to wear my Boots!!!

Of course, there is the requisite bullshit. Landgrab negotiations, camp set up. The week from hell here at work that I will spend coasting through the daytime hours, and working like a House Elf at night to get ready.
But it is so close now I can taste the dirt from the road in my mouth, feel the sunlight.
…There goes those tears again.
I can’t describe what Pennsic does to me, what it means to me…it’s been such a long journey. Every year is unique, every year is the same. So many incredible memories. I just can’t get the folks that don’t go, or hate it. I just can’t be that jaded. It is still the Big Dance, The Show, why I’m who I am in the Society. I get to be that person at Pennsic more than anywhere else. I get to touch magic, once a year.
Can I get an Amen?
I want out of this office, out of these braces and clothes so bad I could scream. I want to be walking barefoot in the tall grass on Mount Eislen. I want to hear the cannon going off that means CHARGE and the next one that is greeted with the shouts of heroes.
I want to be there.
