Where are the Dragons?
2005-08-23 - 4:59 p.m.

9 hours of sleep on Sunday night and 10 hours last night and I am still freaking exhausted.

Tonight I will putter around some more and then collapse early if I can.

How was the second trip up to Pennsic?

Well…

I made record time. I got to Pennsic in about 5.5 hours. I blame really really bad experiences with trying to get food to be a factor. A subway that was out of bread, yada, yada….

I have the weirdest traveling experiences when I am alone…I actually passed an SCA sign while driving through West Virginia.

I almost stopped by just for the heck of it….

I moped around for the first couple of days and tried to keep myself as busy as possible to stave off the sadness of no Kimmie. It didn’t really work out that well…

When I got there on Friday night camp was settling down for bed so I tried to sleep. But sleep wouldn’t come so I started drinking beer. Sleep still wouldn’t come do I got up a second time and kicked a pitiful little fire to life from the embers, drank my beers all alone, and sung little snatches of songs under my breath, so as to not wake my campmates.

It was the saddest, most pitiful thing you have ever seen, I assure you.

On Saturday I tacked unpacking and getting a few things done around camp. I awoke with a terrible hangover (never drink the last beer in the cooler just because you can’t sleep!) which after throwing up and sweating it out, and getting lunch, I was a lot better. I did some power shopping with the guys and called it a day.

Sunday was opening ceremonies, the Battle of the Thirty (had my ass handed to me twice and owe double ransom…grumble) and the Pennsic Quest. No time for details today, but it was a very memorable day to say the least.

Monday was the bridge battles, the Challenge of the Couter, and Guy’s Pelican into the Fostering Ceremony/Mooselodge Fumbling of the Ambers.

On Tuesday we fought in the woods, which, besides the vomiting were a lot of fun. That afternoon my Kimmie arrived and the war could really begin in earnest.

More on that later.
