Knight, Laurel, and Shit Shoveler...
2005-09-19 - 9:02 a.m.This entry is going to be a little crabby and snarky. Please read about my morning and bear that in mind. Jees....
So I get into work this morning and one of the homeless guys (certainly hope it wasn’t one of the VCU students…) has taken a crap at our back door again. Last time we weren’t exactly sure as to whether it was a dog or a human, but this time he was nice enough to leave napkins behind to verify it for us. So you can add ‘shit shoveler’ to my long list of accomplishments today.
If I wasn’t such a sympathetic gagger it wouldn’t have been so bad, but this was obviously ‘hot off the grill’. Terrible. Ugh.
The worst part (besides the flies and the smell, ok, the smell was the worst part) was that the tissues had been crammed in the hole between the first and second step. With the shovel I was using I had to do some fancy maneuvers just to get them all out of there. Awful.
I used to think that throwing away a homeless guys stuff at Christmas time was the worst thing I had ever had to do here, and now I’m not so sure….
I am torn between this feeling of abject horror and disgust and anger that makes me want to wait inside the doorway until this assclown comes back and beat him to death with said shovel, and pity and sadness that people live like this.
All I can say is, this is going to take a lot of prayer to get around….
What is it with me and Poo anyway? Do I have a beacon for the stuff? Sigh…
***So this weekend was a lot of fun. Kim and I re-watched Sin City on Friday night (awesome), and Saturday night, (after an uneventful day where my allergies kicked my ass and I got basically nothing done) we rent four more movies. I really enjoying getting to watch movies again, another benefit of cutting back on SCA travel for a while. I have to say though that the two movies we watched Saturday night were less than stellar productions. First was “The Life Aquatic” which was such a disappointment because of its awesome cast (Bill Murray, Angelica Huston, Owen Wilson, William Defoe, Cate Winslett, etc.). There were a couple of funny/odd moments in there, but it just wasn’t worth it overall. We thought that would be the shitiest movie we would see that evening, but we were WRONG. Next came “The Way of The Gun”, (starring Benecio Toro and Juliette Lewis) which by about half way through was labeled “The Way of ‘THE SUCK!’. Awful movie. Just awful. Even Juliette Lewis can’t look hot in that trailer trash sorta way she has when she is in the middle of a C-section in a Mexican whorehouse. Woof. However, Cate was really hot as the pregnant reporter in “Aquatic”…what is it with the pregnant theme…
On Sunday we went to Mass at St. Augustine, just down the road from us. The guest pastor had a really interesting speaking voice. It was sorta British, sorta New Haven old money…Neither Kim nor I could really place it. We took a little unguided tour of the church to check it out as a possible event site while we were there, and the place has possibilities. Next was a quick lunch at Pino’s and then home to get ready for River Point’s Lunch on the Lawn fighter practice/event thingy. Also, I unloaded all the debris from the garbage can (concrete, wood, etc.) in the hopes that our paid garbage service will actually pick it up today. I can see why they didn’t though, I had no idea the thing had gotten so heavy…wow. The maggots were fun too. Just an all around fun weekend for that sorta stuff for me. I’m surprised a baby didn’t vomit on me in church or something. (whew boy! Did we see the UGLIEST BABY at Church or what!! Frog-baby we called it. Most babies are so naturally cute that you can get around their less attractive features but not this one I tells ya. Yikes, that was one horrendously ugggggggly kid. I’m glad it’s parent’s love it, because “Date night” is going to consist of Playstation, a six pack of diet Shasta, and this month’s “Juggs” for this kid. Woof.
Anyway, Lunch of the Lawn was a lot of fun. The fighting was ok for what it was. I ran through the bear pit once or twice and then dialed it down just a touch so that everyone could have fun. I freaking hate bearpits, btw, nothing against Fritz or anything but they are my least favorite style of tourney. No pomp, no drama, nothing but a long time of fighter practice. I would have been much more happy with a day of pickups and structured practice, or even a magic tourney, but such is life. Nonetheless it was good to fight, and I picked up some valuable timing tricks for a couple of fights. Thanks to everyone that made it possible, it was a fun time! I’d love to see more of these Sunday afternoon potlucks/practices and have been trying to hold them in Richmond for years. I guess I just needed an alliterative title! Who knew!!!
Afterwards we nibbled on a little of the potluck and then we had to jet. I felt bad not helping break down (must have been the first time at a local event in years that I didn’t do that) but after the four person came by and asked what the hell was wrong with my face I realized I had to go home and get cooled off ASAP. Sometimes the eczema round my eyes gets so bad that I develop lots of little cuts and breaks in the skin. When say, Sweat or saline from my contacts gets in these it irritates them and burns like hell. The effect is that I have a puffy, swollen domino mask around my eyes, like I’m some sorta hairless raccoon. This happens to a lesser extent every time I fight, but with the allergy flair up that I’m having it was a lot more noticeable. So we got home and I stood in a cold shower for a long, long time. After that we watched Rome and a little football and then crashed.
My boss is out of town this week on a sailing jaunt, so the majority of my time will be spent juggling clients that ‘have to speak to him right now’ and making sure that we don’t turn into a sewage landfill. I see martini’s in my future tonight…just sayin’…
